“Her voice will simultaneously haunt and comfort you…”

Mark Lalama, Canadian musician, songwriter, producer.

Janie Grand is a Canadian singer/songwriter who weaves extreme emotions into subtle melodies. Whether she’s writing her own introspective material or writing a for a corporate client, the process is always the same – tell the story.

“The best music is raw emotion. You don’t need to sell honesty—people naturally connect with the truth.”

As part of a family band, Janie was just 10 years old when a CBC television crew aired a segment that would showcase the group alongside an unknown family band at the time, The Rankins. “They did alright for themselves...”

Humor aside, music was a childhood backdrop and Janie spent many summers playing festivals, charities, and TV morning shows/telethons.

After winning a BMG Music Canada songwriting competition while in university, Janie focused on writing and music production.  She has written music featured in local and national radio and television ads, as well as for national charitable organizations and causes. In 2011, she was commissioned to write music for an educational video that promoted the building of a school in Afghanistan as part of Rotary Canada’s 100th year anniversary. The song entitled “More I Want to Know” was distributed to schools across Canada and became a national campaign song; rare for a theme song to be featured on mainstream radio, including Canada's number one morning show, CHUM FM with Roger, Rick and Marilyn.

Janie is featured on “In Good Company", an Ontario Arts Council funded compilation CD featuring female singer/songwriters across Southern Ontario. She has worked in studios with established Canadian musicians and producers Mark Lalama, Dan Brodbeck, Louise Fagan and Dean Malton.

Janie continues to write for various commercial and charity projects and is currently working on her own material for release. For the latest news, click here.
